Cortes Island Museum maintains informational files on subjects of local interest as a research resource. Contents of files may contain clippings or photocopied newspaper and magazine articles, correspondence (including printed email correspondence) and other non-archival material. The CIMAS audiovisual collection consists of sound and video recordings on various media. Subject matter includes interviews with residents of Cortes Island and nearby islands, events which occurred on the island and musical and theatrical performances by island artists and groups. Material is arranged in three series according to physical type: Audio tapes; CDs and DVDs, and VHS tapes. Items which do not have accession records have been given an arbitrary FIC (Found In Collection) number depending on their date of processing.
